Who are you when nobody wants anything from you right now?

This photo was taken a few days ago at Lake Sempach.

My son was playing by the water. I was just sitting there.

For the first time in a long while, I didn't have to organize anything for a moment. No scheduling appointments. No making decisions. No explaining anything to anyone.

And suddenly a question popped into my mind—one that has stayed with me to this day:

Who am I, really, when nobody wants anything from me right now?

An unusual question.

After all, our daily lives are shaped by roles.

  • We are executives

  • Mother or Father

  • Partner

  • colleague

  • Coach

  • Girlfriend

We take care of things, organize, make decisions, and provide support.

And we often do that with all our hearts.

But when do we actually get to know the person behind all these roles?

  • Not the coach in me.

  • Not the mother.

  • Not the employee.

  • Just Stefanie.

Maybe that's exactly why those hours by the lake moved me so much.

Not because anything special happened.

But because, for once, nothing had to happen.

I didn't have to live up to anyone's expectations.
I didn't have to achieve anything.
I didn't have to prove anything.

I was allowed to just be myself.

Perhaps that is precisely where we find a kind of freedom that we sometimes forget in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Not the freedom to do anything.

But rather the freedom to not have to be anyone for a moment.

Just ourselves.

That's why I'm taking away more than just happy memories from this weekend.

Instead, here’s a question I’d like to share with you as well:

Who are you when nobody wants anything from you right now?

You might not find the answer right away.

But maybe it begins precisely in one of those quiet moments when you don't have to do anything—and can reconnect with yourself.

And maybe that's exactly where you'll discover what truly makes your heart smile.
